The Sword Art Online franchise is expanding with two new adaptations based on the light novels. Both new series were announced at the Dengeki Bunko festival in Tokyo. The first announcement revealed that the Alicization Arc will be made into an anime and a second one disclosed that there’s another related series in the works. Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online light novel is getting an anime adaptation as well. The anime is based on the Sword Art Online spin-off written by Keiichi Sigsawa. The 45 years old author is mostly known for Kino’s Journey and Allison. He is a self-proclaimed gun enthusiast. In fact, his pen name, Sigsawa, is based on Sig Sauer, the name of a company who produces firearms. Another artist who borrowed his talent to the Gun Gale Online spin-off is Kouhaku Kuroboshi. His and Sigsawa’s collaboration dates back to Kino’s Journey, Allison, and Lillia and Treize.

Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online deals with the adventures of Llen in the guns themed VR MMO. Tomori Kusunoki will be lending her voice to the main character of the spin-off series, Llen. Tomori Kusunoki is a very young voice actress. She is 18 years old and she was the voice of Setsuna Yuki from Perfect Dream Project. Joining Kusunoki for the Gun Gale Online anime, is Yoko Hikasa as the voice of Pitohui, Llen’s friend in GGO. Hikasa has been working as a voice actress since 2007. Her most notable work includes Danganronpa and K-On!. Kazuyuki Okitsu will be voicing M. Okitsu started his career in 2007 as Kamemiya from Gintama. He voiced dozens of characters including Jonathan Joestar from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, the anime and the video game. Okitsu also dubbed Lucio from Overwatch, Blizzard’s most recent game. Chinatsu Akasaki, as the voice of Fukaziroh, is not on her first SAO project. She was Lux’s voice in Sword Art Online: Lost Song video game. The events in the Gun Gale Online anime are set to take place after Kirito’s adventure in GGO. Kirito and other characters from the Phantom Bullet arc are referenced but don’t make an appearance.
